5 Ways to Keep Employees Motivated Under High Pressure
5 Ways to Keep Employees Motivated Under High Pressure My previous job was customer service for a huge electronics brand. Many days were ten hours of non-stop calls, some with furious customers who have been trying to resolve issues for weeks or even months, and theyâve just waited on hold for half an hour to talk to you. It was the kind of job that would give some people nightmares, and definitely not for the thin-skinned. Working in a sector like retail means specific periods, such as Christmas, bring unbelievable pressure and mountains of stress. I learned a lot during these times, including what works for employees who are bearing the brunt of it all. Read on for some inspiration. 1. Divide your workforce as little as possible If your company has some of your employees working in branches or âin the fieldâ while others are based at a head office, thereâs already a good chance that at least one side will develop an âus vs. themâ way of thinking. Itâs pretty hard to avoid altogether, and luckily most employees will understand the greater need for the business to act like one. Bigger problems arise when everyone is broken down to a multitude of different departments, and only certain people can carry out a part of a process chain. It frustrates workers, hinders their ability to find solutions and hamstrings processes that could be far simpler. 2. Reward ongoing effort, not just specific events Telling somebody theyâve done a great job should hopefully be a no-brainer to anyone in a management role, but it shouldnât just be for hitting KPIs or handling a complaint well. In times when the pressure ramps up and time is of the essence, workers need to hear that their continued focus and dedication is noticed and appreciated. Positive feedback for âjust doing their jobâ will go a long way, particularly as it will likely be an unexpected highlight of their day. This can be as simple as a âthank you.â 3. Listen to complaints, then ask for solutions When everyone in the building is up to their eyeballs in important tasks, complaints are the last thing anybody needs. Employees will understand that changes to procedure are unlikely to take place right when everybody is under pressure â" but that doesnât mean you canât ask for their input. If potential improvements canât be made right away, promise to follow it up when the timing is right. Maybe even arrange a meeting to prove it. If workers see that you can remember whatâs important to them despite busy periods, youâll get the motivation back in spades. 4. Lead by example Show them that you can give what youâre asking for. Showering employees with motivational quotes and compliments through emails while you sit back and relax is not going to do anything, and you can guarantee that youâll be picked up on it quickly. If your workers feel like all the pressure is on them while the management excuse themselves until the stress dies down, any respect for authority goes out the window. 5. Let them enjoy themselves All things in moderation, of course, but sharing a joke with colleagues should not be treated as work avoidance. Laughter has a wealth of health benefits and positively burns up stress. These moments for employees to breathe and relax their brain for a minute keep them happier, more focused, and ultimately more productive. Positive social interaction is important for human beings and makes a work environment a far easier place to flourish. There are lots of ways to motivate workers and take them out of the pressures of high-stress, and the approaches you can take will differ depending on the nature of the business and the work environment. Small incentives in the form of friendly competitions or just buying some sweet treats for the office can have a far greater impact than you would first think. Be creative and listen to what your employees value. If you can deliver on these needs, youâll get much more motivation and loyalty from them. How to Write a Resume For a Nursing Career
How to Write a Resume For a Nursing CareerWriting resumes is as easy as typing. First, find out how many letters are in the alphabet, number of pages and line break the resumes with spaces between the words to make it easier for the recruiters to read. The sentences should be short and concise; do not go into detail about your education, career path or experiences. If you are a mother of young children, the best time to write resumes for health care jobs is after the birth of the baby because the majority of the applications are based on this. Nursing mothers need a way to know that their career has potential and they need to have an objective statement and at least two covers pages to keep the recruiters interested in hearing more.It is recommended that the new parents write a cover letter about themselves as a mother to the recruiters. This will show them that the applicant cares about them as parents. This is one of the easiest parts of a resume to get wrong. After you have filled i n all the information on the resume, you can fill in the blank cover page with a few thoughts. It is recommended that you keep your cover page short and simple, or they will edit it to make you look foolish. You do not want to look overworked and tired.Next, you must do the research necessary to be able to get a job in the nursing field. Be sure to look at the university websites and look for their academic programs as well as their degree program. All of this will help you understand your resume and make you look like a qualified candidate.Once you have finished your resume, you must upload it onto the nursing websites to see if you qualify for any nursing health care careers. There are two ways to upload your resume; the first is to go online, where you will search for the job that you want, and upload it. The second way is to fax it to the company.Find out where the local recruiters are and visit their office to go over your resume. The recruiter will then give you the contact in formation to the hiring director, so you can send in a resume with the details you want the company to know.Nursing agencies, such as CareerNet and JobNet, can help you with your resume and cover letter. These agencies can also help you find a job that is perfect for you, by finding jobs that match your background and abilities.

Oh My! Peace, Beautiful Bike Paths In New York City The bustling streets of New York City are packed with cars, trucks, taxis, Ubers, and pedestrians. Driving in New York City can be no easy feat for visitors who arent used to the traffic. Walking is easier than navigating the packed out city streets, but by far the best way to see the city is on a bicycle. â Biking through New York City is a great way to save money on cabs and get a thorough workout while experiencing all the city has to offer,â said Blair Nicole, spokesperson for Bike Rental Central Park. These amazing bike paths will take you by numerous attractions and beautiful sights. And plenty of places to stop for authentic New York cuisine!â Here are some of the most well-loved ones: Carroll Gardens To Coney Island This nine mile, tree-lined bicycle path down Ocean Parkway takes you right by Prospect Park, Coney Island Bagels, and the New York Aquarium. Prospect Park is a beautiful place to relax, people watch, and picnic. This family-friendly venue features the Prospect Park Zoo, which hosts over 400 animals and 100 species. Tickets for the zoo can be purchased online and cost eight dollars per adult and five dollars per child. The next stop along the way is none other than Coney Island Bagels. These authentic, hand-rolled bagels are made fresh with signature ingredients. There truly is a sandwich here for everyone, since they offer meat-lover and totally vegan options. Coney Island Bagels is open 24/7. At the end of Ocean Parkway, you will find the New York Aquarium, located on Surf Avenue. The aquarium features an aquatheater, where you can find adorable sea lions doing tricks. Tickets for the New York Aquarium are $11.95. Hudson River Greenway The Hudson River Greenway is 11 miles of beautiful scenery and city skyline. This trail runs along the west side of Manhattan, starting in Battery Park City and ending at the George Washington Bridge. Battery Park City provides an absolutely stunning view of The Statue of Liberty. The trail goes by Brookfield Place, an upscale mall featuring New York eats and live music. This path takes you by Hells Kitchen and the Upper West Side, all while providing a stunning view of Jersey City. Before reaching the bridge, you may want to stop and see the General Grant Memorial, the tomb of Ulysses S. Grant and his wife. Governors Island For car-free bike riding, Governors Island is a serene trail dotted with trees, army barracks, and mansions. This path features views of the New York Harbor and Lower Manhattan. From Governors Island Lookout Hill, you can catch a unique view of Lady Liberty. The free ferry to Governors Island allows bicycles, making it a great mode of transportation to this path. The island is open in the summer on weekends and on Mondays that fall on a holiday. Governors Island is known for hosting many cultural events, making it the perfect biking destination if you want to escape concrete and metal in exchange for something more colorful. The Bronx River Parkway Reservation The Bronx Parkway is an 807 acre linear park spanning from Mount Vernon to Valhalla. The reservation goes through Westchester County, and features a one mile loop by Oak Street, a over four mile stretch from Bronxville to Scarsdale, and a five mile section from Hartsdale to Valhalla. Can Writing a Double Major and Minor On Resume Help You Get A Job?
Can Writing a Double Major and Minor On Resume Help You Get A Job?A lot of college students wonder how to go about writing a double major and minor on resume. They see it as a great way to show employers that they can handle both majors. But is this a good idea? And if so, how do you go about this? It's true that many colleges list two majors on their undergraduate applications. The reality is that many of these double majors are for classes that are considered 'necessary' and just aren't that interesting to students who are studying for their college degree. Students like myself really want to enjoy our college degrees because we want to give ourselves the best chance possible to get a high paying job after graduation.Writing a double major and minor on resume, in my opinion, is a great way to show employers that you have taken both degrees. The best way to demonstrate this is to take the courses that you need in order to complete your major. This means taking both intro math and cal culus so that you can graduate. If you don't like doing the math or if you have any fear that you may not be able to do well in the class, you can try taking the required calculus classes online or through distance learning. What should you do if you don't have the time to sit in on the classes in order to get good grades? This is a good question and there isn't really a single answer to it. I always recommend that you take online classes because they make the time you save to go to classes go much more quickly. And of course, I would suggest that you take the courses that interest you in order to make the most of your time.In my opinion, the double major and minor on resume approach works if you are going to make use of your college degree in the working world. This means if you want to be a dentist, you should take biology or pre-med courses. If you don't like biology, then you can try accounting or economics courses. But you should know that in order to make a good impression on po tential employers, you shouldn't use the double major and minor on resume method too often. Most people who do it on a regular basis just create a huge resume filled with high school or college classes that they took during their freshman year.As a result, you should seriously consider adding a paragraph to your resume explaining why you want to highlight your college major or what your GPA has been throughout college. Also, it's important to remember that this doesn't mean you have to use the double major and minor on resume method every time you apply for a job. You should still follow a similar approach when you're applying for a new job, but the extra effort will help you achieve better results. In conclusion, if you're going to use a double major and minor on resume, make sure you use it sparingly. You want to use it in order to highlight your accomplishments in college. Of course, you should also use your specific college major or your GPA and these are usually enough to make t he employer interested in hearing more about them.

PARADE Update Getting Started Sherri Thomas and Meghan Olesen
PARADE Update Getting Started Sherri Thomas and Meghan Olesen PARADE Update: Getting Started: Sherri Thomas and Meghan Olesen PARADE Update: Getting Started: Sherri Thomas and Meghan Olesen May 20, 2010 by Career Coach Sherri Thomas Leave a Comment With nearly one in 10 Americans looking for work, the job search is tougher than ever. PARADE chose five unemployed people looking for work and paired each with a career counselor. Below is the first update from Sherri Thomas, Career Coaching 360 for the PARADE series The Job Hunt. Getting Started: Sherri Thomas and Meghan Olesen Meghan Oleson and I had our initial consultation this week so that I could better understand her career history, goals and vision, as well as share my strengths as a career coach and areas of expertise. Im impressed with Megans young age (shes 30 years old) and her ability to successfully transition into a variety of job roles and industries including being an executive pastry chef, marketing specialist and entrepreneur. She has many wonderful strengths and passions, plus a wide range of transferable skills that we can tap to help her reinvent her career! The first question I asked Meghan (and all my clients) is how best I could help her. Option A) Help her find a job RIGHT NOW. Option B) Help her create a career vision, action plan and transition into a meaningful and inspiring career (this approach takes more time, thought and focus â" but the result is having a thriving career with more options, more stability and more passion!) Meghan chose Option B. This means that over the next several weeks, Ill be giving her my exclusive steps to create her personal Career Success Blueprint, as well as helping her create a simple but powerful career action plan that includes a job search strategy, networking techniques and a polished and professional resume to build a powerful personal brand, increase her marketability, and stand out from her competition. After Meghan determined that this is the direction she wanted to go, then it was time for her first assignment â" creating her personal Career Success Blueprint. The first step is for Meghan to define her career vision. This includes three (3) key skills or responsibilities that Meghan wants to be known, recognized and paid for. Envision yourself one year from now in a career that motivates and inspires you. What are you doing? What kind of responsibilities do you want to have? What kinds of projects and initiatives do you enjoy doing? What kinds of teams do you have a passion to lead? For her first assignment, Meghan is drawing a Venn diagram (three circles that connect to each other) and inside each circle she is writing one key skill or responsibility that she desires in her next career move. With so many talents and strengths, Im excited to see what shell choose ??
